- Heat Pump Mandate: The draft rulemaking points toward requiring heat pumps for both space heating and water heating. This would effectively eliminate the use of gas-fired equipment in new ADUs.
- Grid-Interactive Technology: Under these proposals, new electric water heaters would need to be grid-interactive, allowing them to adjust power draw based on utility signals to better manage grid demand.
- Energy Efficiency Baselines: We anticipate a continued focus on high-efficacy LED lighting paired with occupancy or vacancy sensors, as well as strict insulation levels for ceilings and walls to minimize electrical demand for HVAC systems.
